Stay Alert
Sign up for local alerts (like FEMA, Cal Fire, or your state’s emergency system). Keep a battery-powered or crank emergency radio handy to stay informed when power or cell service fails.
Prepare to Evacuate
Pre-pack a go-bag with ID, medications, water, clothes, and other essentials. Keep your car fueled and parked facing outward for a quick and safe departure.
Protect Your Lungs & Eyes
Use N95 masks whenever outdoors to reduce smoke inhalation. Keep doors and windows shut, and place damp towels under doors to block smoke entry. Wear goggles outside to protect from blowing ash and embers.
Evacuate Early
Don’t wait for flames to be visible—follow evacuation orders immediately. Stick to main roads and avoid shortcuts that may be blocked or unsafe.
